Privacy Policy

Calinear (calinear.me) is a directory of businesses in California. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the website, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. Questions: privacy@calinear.me.

Information you give us:

• Account details: name, email address and password (stored as a hash), or your Google profile name and email if you sign in with Google.
• Business owner information: details you submit when you add, claim or edit a listing, including documents you upload to prove ownership.
• Content you post: reviews, photos, project or quote requests and messages.
• Messages you send through the contact form.
• Billing details for paid plans. Card payments are handled by Stripe; we do not see or store full card numbers.

Information collected automatically:

• Technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages you request, recorded in server and security logs.
• Error reports from your browser when a page fails, so we can fix bugs.
• Searches and clicks on listings (for example a call or website click), used to measure and improve the directory.

Listings contain information about businesses (name, address, phone number, website, category) compiled from public sources and from business owners. How we compile and check listings is described in our methodology. If a listing is wrong or you want it removed, use Report incorrect info / request removal.

• To run the directory, your account and owner tools, and to process payments.
• To answer your messages and send service emails (for example email verification or password reset).
• To keep the service secure and to prevent fraud and abuse.
• To understand how the directory is used and improve it.

• Necessary cookies keep you signed in and protect forms. They are required for the site to work.
• A preference cookie (calinear_ads_consent) stores your advertising choice for up to 180 days.
• Advertising cookies from Google AdSense are used only if you choose "Allow ad cookies". Until you do, the AdSense code is not loaded at all.

Maps are loaded only when you open one. Map images then come from OpenStreetMap servers, which receive your IP address like any website you visit.

We use service providers that process information on our behalf: Cloudflare (hosting and security), Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), SendGrid (email), GlitchTip (error reports), Google (sign-in, and ads only with your consent) and OpenStreetMap (map images). We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect our users and the service.

We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies can count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law; that is why they stay off unless you opt in.

If you live in California you can ask us to:

• tell you what personal information we collected about you and how we used and disclosed it;
• delete or correct personal information about you;
• stop selling or sharing your personal information: Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.

We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out of selling and sharing. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we will not treat you differently for using your rights.

To make a request, email privacy@calinear.me. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on it. An authorized agent can make a request for you with your written permission.

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above or as the law requires. You can ask us to delete your account at any time. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Calinear is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.

When we change this policy we update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes we may also notify registered users by email.
