Data sources and attribution
Calinear lists businesses in California. This page explains where that information comes from, which licenses apply, and what we do not know. Last updated: October 2026.

OpenStreetMap data and the ODbL
Listings that originate from OpenStreetMap are marked as such in our database and are shown with the attribution “© OpenStreetMap contributors”. OpenStreetMap data is available under the Open Database License; you are free to copy, distribute and adapt it, as long as you credit OpenStreetMap and its contributors and share any adapted database under the same license.
Our copy was rebuilt in October 2026 from an earlier snapshot. For these records we no longer have the original OpenStreetMap element ids or retrieval dates, so individual listings may be out of date.
How we process the data
- Exact duplicates (same name at the same location) are merged into one listing.
- Each listing is placed in the city whose official boundary contains it, using Census TIGER/Line data.
- Phone numbers are also stored in the international E.164 format so they can be matched reliably.
- Places that are not businesses (for example parking lots or utility sites) are flagged in our data.
- Listings whose location is outside California are marked as out of area and are not listed.
- We do not import ratings or review counts from other services, and we do not invent missing details.
Corrections and removal
If a listing is wrong, closed, or should not be listed, please contact us. Business owners can also claim their listing to correct it directly. Corrections to OpenStreetMap itself can be made at openstreetmap.org/fixthemap.
