How we compile listings

A listing can include a business name, street address, phone number, website, business category and map location. Many listings have only some of these. When we do not have a detail, the listing leaves it out; we do not fill gaps with guesses or generic text.

• Public sources. Most listings were first compiled in bulk from publicly available business and map data. For records imported this way we do not always still have the original source of each field, so we treat them as not yet re-checked.
• Business owners. Owners can add a business or update their own listing.
• Corrections from visitors. Anyone can report wrong or outdated information.

We do not copy reviews, ratings or photos from other websites into Calinear listings.

Re-checking listings against authoritative sources (such as state license boards for licensed trades) and removing duplicates and records that are not businesses is ongoing work. Until a listing has been re-checked it may contain outdated information, so confirm the details with the business directly before you hire someone.

Where a page shows a professional license, it links to the issuing board (for example the California Contractors State License Board) so you can confirm the license status yourself.

Search results are ordered by how well a listing matches your search and, when you search near a place, by distance. Premium listings, which businesses pay for, can appear higher and are labeled Premium or Sponsored. Payment does not change a listing's details or its reviews.

Ratings on Calinear should come only from reviews that registered users submit on Calinear. How reviews are moderated is described in our editorial and review policy.

If a listing is wrong, closed, or about you and you want it removed, send us a request. Include the listing link and what should change. We aim to respond within 7 days.
